Agrément for a new head of mission

The request for agrément for a new head of mission shall be submitted by the sending state through a note verbale to the Office for Foreign Affairs after agrément has been granted by the state in which the head of mission is to reside. The note verbale shall include a curriculum vitae of the person proposed.

The procedure shall remain confidential until agrément has been given by H. S. H. the Reigning Prince or his representative and the government. The sending state shall be informed of this by means of a note verbale.

Once agrément has been granted the head of mission may take up his or her duties and attend events in Liechtenstein even if he or she has not yet presented his or her credentials, exceptions to this are the New Year’s Reception and the National Day Celebration. Until the letter of credence has been presented, the head of mission must use the title "designated Ambassador".

The media shall not be informed about the granting of agrément.
