COVID-19 vaccinations

COVID-19 vaccinations in fall / winter 2024

COVID-19 vaccinations have been offered by doctors in their practices like other vaccinations since July 1, 2024. The costs of the COVID-19 vaccination are covered by compulsory health insurance. A co-payment is payable on benefits provided by compulsory health insurance.

Who can and should be vaccinated

- All interested persons aged 12 and over can be vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2.
- The current and already approved vaccines adapted to the JN.1 virus variant from the two manufacturers Moderna and Pfizer can be vaccinated.
- Vaccination to prevent severe disease progression is strongly recommended for people over the age of 65 and particularly vulnerable people with chronic illnesses as well as pregnant women.
- The minimum interval from the last vaccination or last confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection should be at least 6 months.
- Special vaccination schedules apply to severely immunodeficient people in close consultation with the doctors treating them.
- Vaccination can also reduce the risk of post-COVID-19 disease.
- Other vaccinations with inactivated vaccines (such as the flu vaccine) can be given at the same time as, before or after a COVID-19 vaccination.
- As with the flu vaccination, the ideal time for the COVID-19 vaccination is between mid-October and mid-December.
- Ask your doctor for advice about the vaccination.
