During pregnancy, the costs of necessary medical check-ups and obstetric care by a doctor or midwife — both during pregnancy and within 10 weeks after childbirth — are covered. However, the insured person must have been a member of a health insurance fund for at least 270 days prior to birth. Relevant insurance periods with another fund within the EEA are taken into account.
Employed mothers are entitled to 20 weeks of maternity benefits, with at least 16 weeks to be taken after birth.
