Structural maintenance
In view of the increasing demands on the road network - more traffic, higher load frequencies, improvement of road safety, avoidance of traffic jams and reduction of environmental pollution - major financial expenditure must be expected for road maintenance. International Affairs estimates that 1.5 - 2 % of the replacement value of roads is spent annually on structural maintenance and renewal alone.
