Property and buildings in Liechtenstein may be officially appraised by the Valuation Commission or by the chairman of the Valuation Commission upon request.

According to the Valuation Act, valuations which serve exclusively private purposes are not carried out by the Valuation Commission.

Valuation bodies are the Valuation Commission and the Chairman of the Valuation Commission. The Valuation Commission is appointed by the government for a term of four years and is composed of the chairman and two members and their deputies.

The owner shall be notified of the date of the appraisal on the part of the chairman of the appraisal commission. The appraisal shall be preceded by a detailed inspection of the appraisal object by the competent appraisal body. In the case of appraisals by the chairman(s), an inspection may be omitted under certain circumstances. The competent appraisal body shall draw up an appraisal report on the results of the appraisal and shall notify the applicant in writing of the results of the appraisal within 14 days of the appraisal being carried out.
