Multilateral cooperation

Multilateral cooperation, that is, cooperation with several states in various bodies, is an important element of Liechtenstein's foreign policy and thus a central task of the Office for Foreign Affairs. Through multilateral relations, Liechtenstein has developed its own foreign policy profile and strengthened its sovereignty. The staff of the Office and the diplomatic representations of Liechtenstein abroad represent Liechtenstein's interests and foreign policy goals in various bodies of international organizations.

In 1978 Liechtenstein became a member of the Council of Europe. From mid-November 2023 to mid-May 2024 Liechtenstein is taking over the presidency of the most important body of the Council of Europe, the Committee of Ministers. One of the most important organizations for global multilateral cooperation is the United Nations (UNO), of which Liechtenstein has been a member since 1990. Furthermore, Liechtenstein is a member of the OSCE, the IAEO, and the WTO, to name just a few organizations.
