Compensation for pecuniary loss as well as compensation for non-material damage

Persons who have suffered damage as a result of a criminal offense and can credibly show that they receive no or insufficient benefits from third parties (perpetrators, insurance companies, etc.) may apply for compensation and / or compensation for non-material damage. Compensation for pecuniary damage depends on the financial situation of the person making the request, unlike compensation for non-material damage.

The request for compensation for pecuniary damage / compensation for non-material damage must be submitted to the Victim Assistance Unit within five years of the crime, otherwise the claim is forfeited.

If compensation or compensation for non-material damage is awarded, the claims against third parties (perpetrators, insurance companies, etc.) to which the injured person is entitled on the basis of the crime are transferred to the state to the extent of the compensation or compensation for non-material damage provided.
