Travel document was stolen

In Germany

If a travel document is stolen, a report must be filed with the state police.

With the theft report from the state police, a new travel document can be applied for at the Migration and Passport Office

The old document may no longer be used if it is recovered and must be destroyed.

When abroad

Theft abroad must be reported to the nearest local police station. This report is required, among other things, in order to have a provisional travel document issued by the local Swiss representation for the journey home.

Back in Liechtenstein, the theft abroad must be reported to the Migration and Passport Office or the national police. They will issue a loss report for CHF 20.00. Only then can you apply for a new travel document.

Once a loss report has been filed, the old document may no longer be used even if it is found again and must be destroyed.
