Patient mobility in the EU/EEA area

In the Patient Mobility Directive 2011/24/EU on the Exercise of Patients' Rights in Cross-Border Healthcare, the rights for patients are regulated when they want to receive healthcare services in other EU countries.

National contact points had to be established in all member states to provide information around cross-border healthcare. Access to information relevant to treatment is thus greatly facilitated. In order not to be stuck with costs, one should in any case inform oneself before starting the journey, which costs would be covered by one's own health insurance.

The national contact point in Liechtenstein is located at the Office of Public Health. It can be reached at patientenmobilitaet@llv.li
