Medical check-up
Based on Art. 7 Para. 1 and Art. 27 Para. 1 VZV, holders of a driving license as well as driving instructors and traffic experts must undergo a medical examination as follows:
Cat. C, D, C1, D1, BPT (professional passenger transport), traffic experts and driving instructors
- Every 5 years up to the age of 50
- After the age of 50 every 3 years
- After the age of 75 every second year
All categories
- After the age of 75
- After serious accidental injury or serious illness
Please note that the new driving license in credit card format is valid until the next medical check-up.
The examination costs of CHF 120.00 are at your expense and must be paid directly to the doctor.
Please bring the examination form with you to the doctor responsible for the medical check-up.

If you wish to waive your right to drive motor vehicles or the driving license categories that require the medical check-up, please complete the waiver form and send it to the Road Traffic Office together with your driving license.
Driving and dementia
Dementia impairs fitness to drive. Those affected and their relatives should come to terms early on with the fact that driving will no longer be possible at some point. Doctors and other specialists offer advice and assess whether, in their opinion, the person is still fit to drive.
