Compulsory health insurance benefits

Mandatory health insurance provides coverage for the following:

  • Sickness: This encompasses impairment of physical or mental health not resulting from an accident, requiring examination or medical treatment, or leading to incapacity for work.
  • Maternity: Coverage includes pregnancy control, delivery, and the subsequent recovery period for the mother.

Individuals who are not compulsorily insured against the consequences of accidents are entitled to health care insurance benefits in case of an accident. This includes sudden and unintentional damage to the body caused by an extraordinary external event that affects physical or mental health.

The insurance essentially covers:

  • Outpatient treatment by a doctor or chiropractor
  • Prescribed medication and aids
  • Psychotherapy
  • Physiotherapy
  • Nutritional counseling
  • Midwifery
  • Patient transport
  • Laboratory services and diagnostics
  • Contributions to the stay in a nursing home
  • Contributions to medical rehabilitation

Basic insurance covers the costs of treatment and stay in the general ward of a hospital.

Benefits of Daily Allowance Insurance

In the event of a medically certified incapacity to work amounting to at least half of the insured person's salary, a daily allowance of 80% of the salary, previously subject to AHV contributions, is provided, including regular fringe benefits. This allowance is payable from the 2nd day after the onset of illness. In cases of partial incapacity to work (at least 50%), the daily allowance is adjusted proportionally.

The daily allowance is granted for one or more illnesses, for a minimum of 720 days within a period of 900 consecutive days. However, for insured individuals of ordinary retirement age or older, the maximum period of entitlement is 180 days, up to the age of 70 at the longest.
