Information on the Mouse Rootworm

Fire blight is a highly contagious, common and notifiable bacterial disease.

Caused by the bacterium - Erwinia amylovora - it threatens pome fruit trees (apple, pear, quince) and various wild and ornamental shrubs of the Rosaceae.

Since 2008, the control strategy of the country has been based on the protection of varietal gardens and valuable high trunk stands (protected objects). In and around these protected objects, more intensive fire blight control is carried out within a radius of 500 meters. In the remaining area, the owner of the fruit trees is responsible for the control.

In the event of a suspected case, the municipality (forester/chief construction group) must be informed.

The placing on the market and planting of the following fire blight host plants is prohibited:

  • Cotoneaster Ehrh.
  • Stranvaesia Lindl.

Special permits are governed by the Ordinance on Agricultural Terms and the Recognition of Agricultural Enterprises (Agricultural Terms and Recognition Ordinance; LBAV; LGBl. 2009 No. 264).

Special permits are issued in the form of individual permits in writing and for a limited period of time by the Office for the Environment, Department of Agriculture.
