Land mobile service (Private Mobile Radio)

Private Mobile Radio (PMR; non-public) is a subcategory of land mobile radio and is used for internal voice and data transmission within a regional area of operation. Commercial and industrial enterprises, agricultural companies, service providers, blue-light organisations and even clubs and small associations use this option for internal communication.

Land mobile services usually consist of one or several fixed and/or mobile land mobile radio stations.

The following frequency ranges are available to users for analogous and digital PMR:

  • 68 - 87.5 MHz
  • 146 -174 MHz
  • 406.2 - 428 MHz
  • 440 - 470 MHz

To meet high standards for availability and quality of transmission and to ensure efficient and interference-free frequency use in the Principality of Liechtenstein, individual frequency usage rights are allocated to users by means of allocation Decrees. Technical and operational provisions (e.g. frequency, level, area of use) are specified in a document called "Netzbeschrieb" (network description). The equipment used must comply with technical requirements.

You must apply for rights of use for frequencies in advance with the Office for Communications. You must pay one-time fees for allocation as well as annual frequency usage and administration fees.

Please note that the designation of frequencies must be coordinated with Switzerland and Austria and relevant deadlines must be taken into account. A duration of approximately 6 to 8 weeks can be expected from application to frequency allocation.

The legal basis and provisions for land mobile radio (PMR) can be found in the Law on Electronic Communications, the Ordinance on Means of Identification and Frequencies in Electronic Communications, and the Ordinance on Levying Administrative and Usage Fees pursuant to the Communications Act (all in German).

Here you will find the application form for land mobile radio (PMR) pursuant to Art. 33 para. 1 of the Communications Act (in German).
