Brexit information

The United Kingdom left the European Union at midnight on January 31, 2020 and is no longer an EU member state as of this date. As part of the Withdrawal Agreement between the European Union and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, a transition period was agreed during which EU law will continue to apply to the United Kingdom.

The Brexit Transition Act will implement the transition period agreed between the EU and the United Kingdom in Liechtenstein.

In accordance with the Brexit Transition Act, the United Kingdom will continue to be an EEA member state until December 31, 2020, insofar as the EEA Agreement is concerned. The Government may extend the aforementioned period provided that the transition period agreed between the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the European Union is extended; this may be extended once by one or two years.

Citizens of the United Kingdom of Great Britain will thus continue to be treated as EEA nationals with regard to the provisions applicable to foreign nationals in Liechtenstein until 31.12.2020 . British nationals living in Liechtenstein at the end of the transition period will largely retain their previous Legal Division in accordance with the Agreement between Iceland, the Principality of Liechtenstein, the Kingdom of Norway and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
