Hunting education, becoming a hunter

General

Whoever wishes to hunt in Liechtenstein requires a valid hunting card. The basic requirement for the issuance of a hunting card is proof of hunting aptitude by passing a hunting aptitude test

Each hunting community shall appoint a game warden to supervise hunting and protect game. A prerequisite for appointment as a game warden, in addition to various other requirements, is the game warden examination.

Taking the examination

The hunting aptitude examination and the hunting warden examination are conducted as required, usually every three years.

Registrations are no longer available for the current 2023 preparatory course.
The next course is expected to be held in 2026.

Interested persons can inform themselves at any time with the office for environment; Mr. Dominik Frick, and for the next Vorbereitungskurs be pre-registered

The exams consist of:

  • a practical weapons handling test;
  • a shooting test; and
  • a final theoretical examination.

The examinations are to be taken before the hunting examination board.

Examination Regulations for the Hunting Aptitude Test and the Hunting Warden Examination 2022

The announcement of the examinations takes place on our homepage and in the official gazette at least three months before their execution. An advance announcement is made on our homepage at least six months before the date of the examination with an indication of the extent of the hours to be spent on hunting before taking the examination.

Passing the weapons handling test and the shooting test is a prerequisite for admission to the theoretical examination.
