Outpatient Medical Services – Billing based on the Swiss Tariff Structure
In accordance with Article 16c paragraph 3 of the Health Insurance Act (KVG), medical services covered by compulsory health care insurance are billed on the basis of the nationwide Swiss tariff structure, which applies in Liechtenstein.
Since 1 January 2026, TARDOC and the outpatient flat rates have formed the unified tariff structure for outpatient medical services in Liechtenstein. Together, they replace the previous TARMED tariff and define how outpatient treatments in doctors’ practices and hospitals are billed.
The unified tariff structure consists of two coordinated elements:
- TARDOC – the fee‑for‑service component, replacing TARMED and defining which services may be billed individually.
- Outpatient Flat Rates – standardised flat‑rate packages that cover all services provided as part of a defined ambulatory treatment.
The currently applicable version of the tariff structure is available on the website of the Swiss tariff organisation Organisation Ambulante Arzttarife (OAAT AG): TARDOC – Tariff Structure for Ambulatory Medical Services
