Registration of animals and animal husbandry

Cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, equidae (horses, donkeys, mules, hinnies), llamas, alpacas, livestock, dogs, poultry and beekeepers as well as fish farms must be registered. Registration helps to combat epidemics by enabling the identification and traceability of animals.

On farms where cloven-hoofed animals, poultry, bees, parrot birds or aquatic animals are kept, a stock check must also be carried out.

The obligation to register does not depend on the size of the livestock farm. It also applies to small hobby livestock farms.

Dog owners must register their pet with the commune of residence and in the AMICUS database.

The commune of residence manages the personal data of dog owners and registers first-time dog owners with Amicus. The animal is registered by the veterinary practice.

Changes to personal data must therefore be reported to the municipality, while the surrender, adoption, death of a dog, etc. must be reported directly to the AMICUS database.
