Travel with pets

You have decided to travel with your pet to another country? Then you should check already at the planning of the trip, which papers, examinations and vaccinations are necessary for the corresponding country.

Comprehensive information on traveling with pets can be found at the Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO).

For border crossing to and between EU countries, a pet passport containing the following entries is usually sufficient:

  • unambiguous identification of dog, cat or even ferret
  • entry of vaccinations against rabies in accordance with the regulations and
  • if necessary, other findings and certificates

Due to the large number of different entry requirements, the applicable regulations must be enquired about at an early stage with the embassy, a consulate or the veterinary authorities of the country of destination.

Do you need an export certificate from the Food and Veterinary Office?  Since these certificates have a limited validity period and an examination of your pet is necessary, we recommend that you contact us well in advance when you start planning your trip.
