Children's rights
All children have the right to be adequately cared for, supported and protected and to participate in society. These fundamental rights of children are enshrined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which Liechtenstein ratified in 1996.
Children's rights and the Convention on the Rights of the Child are explicitly mentioned in the Children and Youth Act. The Office for Social Services is jointly responsible for the implementation of children's rights in a wide range of areas.
As a state party to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, Liechtenstein submits regular reports to the relevant United Nations Commission. Liechtenstein's country reports can be found on the homepage of the Office for Foreign Affairs.
The Children and Youth Advisory Board (kijub) represents the interests of children and young people at national level. It has a right to a say in political decisions of national importance for children and young people.
The Ombuds Office for Children and Young People (OSKJ) is the monitoring body for the implementation of children's rights and the point of contact and complaints office for children and young people. It has been integrated into the Association for Human Rights since December 2016.
