Archaeological time travel through Schaan with Stone Age snacks

Friday 12 April 2024, 1.30 to 3.30 pm
Meeting point: St Peter Platz
Children from 7

Time and again, treasures have been found hidden in the ground for centuries or even millennia. Archaeologists Sarah Leib Bernd Heinzle from Office of Cultural Affairs/Archaeological Department will take us on an exciting journey back in time to the first inhabitants of Schaan, who left their traces in the soil beneath the village as we know it. During a walk, we learn how people lived here in different eras and what new things they brought with them to Schaan. Afterwards, we will be baking a bread roll for a snack, just as the very first Schaan residents did. Meeting point at 1.30 pm at St. Peter Platz. Dress for the weather.

Registration via toni.buechel@schaan.li; +423 237 72 84.

A cooperation between the Office of Cultural Affairs/Archaeology Department of the Principality of Liechtenstein and the History and Culture Department, Schaan, as part of Aktivwoche Schaan.

Special Exhibitions at LLM

September 28, 2023 - April 14, 2024

"Middle Ages at Lake Constance - Trade between the Alps and the Rhine Falls"

In the Middle Ages, the area between the Alps and Lake Constance evolved into a closely interwoven and important economic, transit and trade area. Towns joined together to form confederations, introduced a uniform currency system and formed hubs for regional and international trade. Around 150 fascinating finds from the period around 1000 CE to 1500 CE from four countries tell of this medieval world of agriculture and crafts, trade and shipping.

"Stadt Land Burg"

The 12th century was characterized by the expansion of rural settlements, the opening up of new settlement areas at higher altitudes, and the founding of new towns and castles. Liechtenstein is also rich in castles, constructed by noble families of different rank and origin. What functions the representative defensive buildings fulfilled, what everyday life was like behind the mighty walls, and how we deal with this unique cultural asset today and in the future will be illuminated in the accompanying exhibition.

The exhibitions will be on view at the Liechtenstein LandesMuseum from September 28, 2023 to April 14, 2024.
