EUSALP General Assembly in Innsbruck: New action plan adopted – Liechtenstein and Austria give a positive assessment

On Tuesday, 25 November 2025, the General Assembly of the EU Strategy for the Alpine Region (EUSALP) took place in Innsbruck, followed by the Annual Forum 2025, where Liechtenstein and Austria took positive stock of their joint presidency. The motto of the presidency was "Cooperation empowers transformation".

The General Assembly focused on the adoption of the new EUSALP Action Plan, which will form the strategic basis for macro-regional cooperation in the coming years. The action plan that has now been adopted is the result of a multi-year revision process  which was supported by several presidencies and successfully completed under the Liechtenstein-Austrian Co-chairmanship.

Deputy Prime Minister Sabine Monauni emphasized the importance of strong macro-regional cooperation in order to effectively tackle key challenges in the Alpine region. Topics such as the mobility transition, the energy transition and the transformation of the construction sector were the focus of the co-chairmanship and formed the main topics of the year.

The involvement of young people was also a particular concern during the presidency. The EUSALP Youth Council contributed numerous ideas to the work and was also represented in Innsbruck. Environment Minister Sabine Monauni emphasized that the perspectives of young people are crucial for the long-term development of the Alpine region.

The EUSALP comprises seven countries: Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia and Liechtenstein. As an instrument of cross-border cooperation, it is open to EU member states and non-EU members alike. Austria's federal states of Carinthia, Salzburg, Tyrol and Vorarlberg were actively involved in the co-chairmanship and made a significant contribution to the successful implementation of the chairmanship year.

With yesterday's conclusion, the presidency will rotate to Bavaria.

Liechtenstein and Austria thanked Bavaria for the close coordination in the run-up and wished it every success for the 2026 presidency year.
