Legal placement in the Government’s Legal Service

The duties of legal trainees in the Government’s Legal Service include, in particular, the following tasks:

• Attending sessions of the State Parliament;
• Assisting with the organisation of referendums;
• Preparing legal analyses, often involving comparative law;
• Supporting the Legal Service team in carrying out the various tasks of the unit.

Legal placement at the Office for Economic Affairs – practical, varied, forward-looking

The Office for Economic Affairs of the Liechtenstein State Administration (www.avw.llv.li) supports the Government in implementing economic policy and is responsible for enforcing a wide range of laws in the field of commercial law. Our areas of responsibility include trade, the movement of goods, energy, research and business promotion, as well as working conditions and health and safety at work, gambling, intellectual property law and consumer protection. We are also responsible for job placement and unemployment insurance.

International cooperation takes place across all areas of our work; in particular, we support numerous procedures under European law within the framework of the EEA Agreement.

Your introduction to the practice

A varied and exciting range of responsibilities awaits you in the Legal Department. You will gain an insight into how legal issues are handled within our various specialist areas and take on roles of responsibility, including:

• Legal analyses and investigations in general and specific administrative law
• Assistance with legislative projects
• Support with proceedings within the agency and before appeal bodies (e.g. drafting submissions)

Your work placement will be recognised as ‘practical experience’ within the meaning of the Lawyers Act and the Lawyers’ Examination Regulations.

Legal Internship at the EEA Unit

Have you successfully completed your law degree (Master’s or Magister) and would you like to gain practical experience in an exciting, international environment? 

The EEA Unit of the Liechtenstein State Administration offers you the opportunity to play an active role in shaping Liechtenstein’s relations with its European partners as part of a six-month legal internship.  

With us, you’ll gain an insight into

• the administration of a unique agreement under European and international law
• dthe transposition of EEA law into the Liechtenstein legal system
• infringement proceedings brought by the EFTA Surveillance Authority in Brussels 
• Proceedings before the EFTA Court, Luxembourg
• Providing legal advice to the government and public authorities on matters relating to EEA law

As part of a young team, you will be at the interface between Liechtenstein and European law – ideal for anyone interested in Liechtenstein’s role in Europe.
