Liechtenstein is supporting the aid programme of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) with a contribution of CHF 100,000.
Due to escalating violence and an increasingly severe crisis, the humanitarian situation in the DR Congo remains one of the worst in the world in 2024. Over 7 million people are internally displaced and more than 25.4 million people - around a quarter of the population - are in urgent need of humanitarian aid. The situation is particularly critical in the east of the country, where around 100 armed groups are fighting over land and resources. These conflicts lead to violence, displacement and the destruction of livelihoods. The collapse of infrastructure and health care makes access to food, clean water and medical aid difficult.
With Liechtenstein's contribution, the ICRC supports the distribution of food, clean water and shelter as well as access to health services for injured and traumatised people. The ICRC also promotes family reunification and the protection of the most vulnerable. The programme in the DR Congo is one of the most underfunded operations in the world, and with this contribution Liechtenstein is making an important contribution to alleviating the humanitarian crisis.
