Emergency aid for people affected by conflict and climate change in Somalia

Liechtenstein is supporting the aid programme of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Somalia with a contribution of CHF 92,475.

The humanitarian situation in Somalia remains extremely critical in 2024. Around 6.9 million people, almost two in five Somalis, are dependent on humanitarian aid, while 3.8 million people have been displaced by armed conflicts, violence and climatic disasters such as floods and droughts. 4.3 million people suffer from acute food insecurity and the number of children with acute malnutrition is growing at an alarming rate. The collapse of water and health infrastructure has further exacerbated the situation, making millions of people dependent on humanitarian aid.

With Liechtenstein's contribution, the ICRC is providing food, water and medical supplies in Somalia. It promotes the repair of water and sanitation facilities, strengthens health facilities and offers rehabilitation services for traumatised and injured people. At the same time, the ICRC is working to protect civilians, medical staff and facilities. The contribution helps to support one of the most underfunded ICRC operations in the world and alleviate the suffering of the Somali people.
