Vaduz (ots) -

Minister Manuel Frick opened Liechtenstein's stand at the Leipzig Book Fair on March 21. On the opening evening for the guests of honor at the Gewandhaus Leipzig on March 20, Minister Frick exchanged views with Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth, Saxon Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, Dutch State Secretary for Culture Fleur Gräper and Flemish Prime Minister Jan Jambon, among others.

The Leipzig Book Fair is the most important spring meeting place for the book and media industry and brings together readers, authors, publishers and media from all over the world. They all come to Leipzig to experience the diversity of literature and discover new products. The Netherlands and Flanders are this year's guest countries with the slogan "Anything but flat".

Liechtenstein appearance with the House of Literature

In cooperation with the Embassy of the Principality of Liechtenstein in Berlin, the Liechtenstein Cultural Foundation once again organized a stand at which recent literary publications in particular were presented. The Most Beautiful Books 2023 and all of the Literaturhaus Liechtenstein yearbooks were also prominently represented at the stand. Roman Banzer, President of the Literaturhaus, and Vice President Hansjörg Quaderer Literaturhaus Liechtenstein engaged in lively discussions at the stand.

For the opening day, the Cultural Foundation organized a reading and panel discussion with Rachel Lumsden. The artist and author, who lives in Liechtenstein, wrote a book during the pandemic that provides a lot of interesting information about the career of a painter, the art market and art itself. "Ride the Wild Sow - Manifesto for Painting" is a clever combination of satire, analysis and instruction manual for contemporary painting. Rachel Lumsden and Nicole Spiekermann presented the book in a lively reading, moderated by art historian Corinne Schatz.

Tireless commitment

Minister Manuel Frick expressed his appreciation for Liechtenstein's presence at the Book Fair and the medium of books in general at the opening ceremony: "The Liechtenstein Cultural Foundation has recognized the value of the Book Fair and has therefore been organizing it consistently together with the Embassy of the Principality of Liechtenstein in Berlin since 2014. I can only thank all those involved for their tireless efforts on behalf of Liechtenstein's entire cultural landscape."

Minister Manuel Frick also gave welcoming remarks at the stand of the translation network Traduki, of which Liechtenstein is a member, attended the opening of the stand of the host countries Netherlands and Flanders and took part in the award ceremony for the Leipzig Book Prize at the invitation of the Saxon Minister of Culture Barbara Klepsch.
