Government Councillor Hasler: exchange with chairman of the Munich Security Conference

On Monday, January 16, the chairman of the Munich Security Conference, Christoph Heusgen, stayed in Liechtenstein. During his stay, he exchanged views with Government Councillor Dominique Hasler on geopolitical developments and their security policy implications. The program also included a courtesy visit to H.S.H. the Hereditary Prince. In addition, Christoph Heusgen gave a public lecture on the topic "After the Russian aggression against Ukraine: A turning point for the European and global security order?"

The war in Ukraine, but also other geopolitical developments, have decisively changed the security situation in Europe. The previous security architecture is outdated. For this reason, Government Councillor Dominique Hasler discussed the topic of security policy and the question of what the current developments mean for Europe and for Liechtenstein in particular with the Chairman of the Munich Security Conference, Heusgen. The possible contribution of Liechtenstein to a peaceful Europe and the defense of common European values also came up.

Christoph Heusgen has been chairman of the Munich Security Conference since 2022. Previously, he was, among other things, Permanent Representative of the Federal Republic of Germany to the United Nations in New York and foreign and security policy advisor to Chancellor Merkel for many years. The Munich Security Conference is regarded as the world's leading security policy forum. Like Liechtenstein, it advocates a comprehensive concept of security. This year, Government Councillor Hasler will again attend the Munich Security Conference.
