SALEWA SPORT AG recalls via ferrata sets with rope brakes

In extensive tests on old, used via ferrata sets, various manufacturers and institutions in the mountain sports industry have found that the systems with rope brakes can fail in the event of a fall. The tests have shown that the impact force values can be increased in the event of a fall. This, in combination with a reduction in the strength of the carabiner branches due to use, can lead to complete failure of the system. Serious injury or death may result. In order to eliminate any risk to customers, SALEWA has decided to immediately recall all via ferrata sets with rope brakes from the market as a precautionary measure. Customers are requested to stop using the affected sets immediately. If customers are in possession of an affected via ferrata set that is not older than 7 years, they can return the set to SALEWA for a free replacement.

The affected via ferrata sets should no longer be used with immediate effect; they can be returned to the manufacturer Edelrid or a specialist dealer for free revision or exchange.
