Import Permits

According to Art. 11 and 12 of the EEA Agreement, quantitative restrictions on imports and exports and measures having equivalent effect are prohibited between the contracting parties. However, Art. 13 allows import, export and transit bans under certain conditions as a protective measure (public morality, order and safety).

The import, export and transit licensing procedures also applicable in Liechtenstein within the framework of the Customs Treaty have been designed in conformity with the EEA by means of agreements between the licensing authorities and the Office of Economic Affairs.

The competent Swiss authorities grant Liechtenstein operators import and export licenses for EEA goods in conformity with the EEA within the framework of the above-mentioned agreement. The prerequisite for this is that the applicant undertakes vis-à-vis the licensing authority to import or export EEA goods and that these imports are included in the market monitoring and control system to prevent circumvention.
