Mpox: Procedure in case of disease

They tested positive

Affected individuals will receive information and behavioral recommendations from the appropriate authority. A PDF document with information can be found here.

We recommend the following rules of conduct for all persons tested positive:

  • Avoid contact with other people until the last of the skin crusts have fallen off.
  • Avoid any sexual contact for 21 days after your positive test result.
  • After your full recovery, use a condom for eight weeks to protect sexual partners.
  • Skin lesions contain viruses: when you leave the house (for example, for a visit to the doctor), cover the skin lesions with clothing and do not touch them if possible.
  • Make sure you practice good hand hygiene; wash or disinfect your hands regularly.
  • Do not use public transportation.
  • Do not share towels or bed linen with other people, wash clothes separately at least 60 degrees. If other people wash your laundry (bedding and clothes): Avoid skin contact with the laundry (wear gloves or carry laundry in a garbage bag), do not shake out laundry, the person should wear a mouth-nose protection when handling dirty laundry.

  • Do not share your household items such as dishes, glasses, cups or kitchen utensils with other people. Clean these items after use in the dishwasher if possible, or carefully with soap and water.
  • Clean surfaces and other items that other people use thoroughly after each use or disinfect them regularly.
  • The disease can be transmitted from humans to animals. Therefore, stay away from animals (including your pets) during your illness (until the end of all symptoms and especially until the last skin crusts fall off). Report any prior contact with pets to the official veterinarian (they will make a report to the official veterinarian).The most frequently asked questions and answers about animal health in connection with monkeypox can be found on the page Monitoring of Zoonoses of the Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office FSVO (CH).
  • If you plan to donate blood, please contact the SRK Liechtenstein beforehand.
  • Report to a health care provider by phone (mentioning possible exposure to monkeypox virus) if your health deteriorates or if any of the following warning signs appear:

    - persistent fever;

    - feeling weak for several days.

    If risk factors or constellations are present (chronic illness, immunosuppression, pregnancy, untreated HIV-infection, infancy or early childhood), this should be reported to the physician in all cases
