Child welfare endangerment

Misuse of children and adolescents occurs in all classes and all cultures, including our own. Often acquaintances or neighbors witness violence or make an observation that they interpret as a sign of danger. But professionals who deal with children also become aware of maltreatment or perceive suspicions in this regard.

The Children and Youth Service of the Office of Social Services is the point of contact when there is suspicion or certainty that a child's well-being is at risk. it is networked in a well-functioning help system and initiates child protection measures to safeguard the interests of the child and to ensure the best interests of the child.

The Child and Youth Service of the Office for Social Services is the point of contact in cases of suspected or confirmed child endangerment

In this sense, the Children and Youth Service supported the awareness campaign "Gewalt-FREI erziehen" of the KINDERLOBBY LIECHTENSTEIN. Assistance from professionals, details of counseling centers and further information can be found at www.gewaltfrei.li

What does child welfare endangerment mean?

Child welfare endangerment is a term that is composed of different factors (type of endangerment, age of the child, duration, frequency, extent, support options, etc.). These factors must be examined and assessed on a case-by-case basis. Usually, the following forms of child welfare endangerment are distinguished:

- Physical violence
- Mental violence
- Sexual abuse
- Neglect
- Witnessing violence between parents

The Children and Youth Service looks for situation- and age-appropriate solutions for children at risk and implements appropriate measures, if possible in close cooperation with the parents and with the involvement of the social environment. These can be outpatient supportive assistance of various kinds, but also the placement of children in foster families or in educational-therapeutic institutions.

In rare cases, official measures affecting the right of custody over the child may become necessary.

A separate specialist group has been established for the problem area of sexual abuse. Consultation by the specialist group is anonymous on request: link to the specialist group
