Wood as a building material and energy source

Building material wood

As one of the few renewable resources in our country, wood has an important economic significance. The ongoing increase in wooden buildings and a growing demand in interior design products and furniture shows that wood is back in vogue.

In the wood industry (forestry operations, forestry contractors, joineries, sawmills, kitchen and window manufacturers, etc.), around 110 companies with over 700 employees are active in Liechtenstein.

In Liechtenstein, the "woody ones" are united in the Verein Holzkreislauf. Together, sawyers, carpenters, joiners and foresters make there strong for the promotion of the domestic raw material wood.

Wood as an energy source

The demand for wood as a CO2-neutral fuel is also steadily increasing. In Liechtenstein today, about 50 large combustion plants (>70 Kw) and over 9,000 small combustion plants (<70 Kw) such as tiled stoves, cheminees, etc. are operated with wood. As a renewable raw material, wood substitutes fossil fuels and thus makes an important contribution to reducing the greenhouse gas effect.
