The responsibilities of the Middle and Higher Education Division include the following:

Middle School Area

  • Supervision and leadership of the school boards of the Liechtenstein Gymnasium and the Berufsmaturitätsschule Liechtenstein
  • Chairing the teaching commissions of both schools to supervise teachers at the instructional level
  • Performance dialogue, continuing education, job and lesson planning in collaboration with the school principals
  • Hiring, professional introductions, and dismissals in collaboration with school administrators
  • Involvement in the design and implementation of pedagogical and/or organizational adaptations to educational policy objectives and evaluations
  • To deal with problem cases that cannot be handled at the school level
  • Supervision of the teaching at the upper secondary school of the Formatio private school
  • Participation in the general quality assurance and development of schools and the school system

High school sector

  • Participation in the "councils" of Liechtenstein universities (University of Liechtenstein, Private University in the Principality of Liechtenstein)
  • To deal with applications for permission to run a university in Liechtenstein
  • Contributing to quality assurance and development in accordance with the Higher Education Act
  • Coordination of higher education matters with Switzerland (representation of the country in the University Council of the Buchs NTB University of Applied Sciences, handling of matters concerning the University of Applied Sciences of Eastern Switzerland, the Intercantonal Agreement on Universities of Applied Sciences and Universities, etc.)
  • Observation of international developments and initiation of the necessary processes in Liechtenstein (v.a. Bologna process)
  • National contact and information point for higher education issues
  • Contact point for Liechtenstein and abroad as NARIC agency (National Academic Recognition and Information Center) regarding clarifications of the equivalence of maturity certificates and university degrees
