UID - company identification

The Swiss company identification number (UID) enables companies to be identified uniformly and unambiguously within the customs union, which simplifies the secure exchange of information.

The twelve-digit UID consists of the three-digit prefix CHE and nine digits, with the last digit being a so-called check digit. The UID is a so-called "non-speaking number", as it is randomly assigned and does not contain any information that allows conclusions to be drawn about the company.

To preserve Liechtenstein's sovereignty and data protection, it is not possible for Swiss authorities to automatically assign a UID to companies based in Liechtenstein. The responsibility to apply for a Swiss UID at the Office of Statistics (AS) therefore lies with Liechtenstein companies themselves.
