The scope of practice of a alternative practitionerincludes the specialty of homeopathy, traditional Chinese medicine, or traditional European naturopathy, depending on the training received.

Specialist qualification/further training

The professional qualification is possessed by those who:

a) is registered in the field of homeopathy in the Swiss Empirical Medical Register or can prove successful completion of the examination with the Swiss Homeopathy Examination Association (shp);

b) is registered in the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the Swiss Empirical Medical Register or proves successful completion of the examination with the Swiss Professional Organization for Traditional Chinese Medicine (SBO-TCM);

c) is registered in the field of Traditional European Naturopathy in the Swiss Empirical Medical Register or demonstrates successful completion of the examination with the School Examination and Recognition Commission of the Naturopathic Physicians Association of Switzerland (SPAK)

The annual renewal of registration in the Swiss Empirical Medical Register (EMR) must be submitted to the Office of Public Health without being requested.

Special features

The professional license is granted for the method or group of methods for which the applicant proves registration or successful completion of the examination.

The use and dispensing of medicinal products is regulated in Art. 56 GesV.

Approval procedure and requirements

According to the Health Act Art. 7 ff, in particular Art. 22 to 24 and Health Ordinance Art. 54 to 56.
