National application and registration
For registration, the trademark must be filed with the Office of Economic Affairs. The necessary forms are provided by the Office.
The trademark is considered filed as of the date on which the Office receives the correctly and completely filled out application for registration. This means that the application must contain the name of the applicant, his/her representative if any, the address, the representation of the trademark, the exact designation of the goods or services, as well as proof of the fees paid. In addition, the application must be signed by the applicant or, in the case of designation of a representative, by the representative.
The list of grounds on which registration may be refused is stated in the provisions regarding trademarks (LR 232.11). A distinction is made between absolute and relative grounds for exclusion
If there are no grounds for exclusion, the trademark is registered in the Liechtenstein trademark register. After registration and publication in the official gazette, a confirmation of registration is issued to the owner or the representative.
