Visa matters

Regulations on entry to Liechtenstein

Switzerland and Liechtenstein generally have the same entry regulations. The regulations on persons requiring visas are largely identical (see Ordinance on Entry and Visa Procedures of 9 December 2008, SR 152.204). Deviating regulations based on bilateral or multilateral agreements remain reserved.

Visa requirement for entry into Liechtenstein

Persons requiring a visa can submit an application for a visa at the Swiss representation at their place of residence abroad. The decision on the application lies partly with the Swiss authorities and partly with the Migration and Passport Office (APA). Whether a visa requirement exists can be checked on the Internet at www.bfm.admin.ch or in the Liechtenstein Law Gazette LGBl. 2008 No. 315.

Entry into other countries

However, if you are interested in the entry requirements of other countries, please contact a travel agency or the relevant embassy of your destination country.

Stay in Liechtenstein

The website of the Migration and Passport Office (APA) describes the various possibilities of living or working in Liechtenstein (with or without gainful employment). The Migration and Passport Office (APA) also issues the relevant permits.

Registration of Liechtenstein citizens abroad

Liechtenstein citizens residing abroad for more than 12 months should register with the appropriate local diplomatic or consular representation to ensure that they receive consular protection in emergency situations. Where Liechtenstein has no representation of its own, Switzerland takes over the representation of Liechtenstein interests on the basis of an agreement of 1919. If Switzerland is not represented in a country, the respective Austrian representation will take over the care of Liechtenstein citizens.

Liechtenstein citizens should appear in person at the relevant representation and identify themselves with a passport. If a personal visit is not possible, the necessary forms and documents can be ordered by telephone from the responsible representation or can be obtained from their website. By registering, administrative matters such as changes in civil status or the application for travel documents can be dealt with locally. In emergency situations, such as natural disasters or terrorist attacks, registration helps the local official bodies to establish contact quickly, search for missing persons or provide rapid assistance.
