The scope of practice includes the independent diagnosis and treatment of diseases and injuries of the oral and maxillofacial region; the examination and consultation for the exclusion and prevention of diseases of the oral and maxillofacial region; the issuance of dental certificates and the rendering of dental expert opinions.

Professional Qualification/further training

The professional qualification is possessed by those who have completed dental studies at a university or college in Switzerland or in a contracting state of the EWRA and who provide evidence of professional further training in accordance with Art. 74 to 76.

Special features

The dentist must consult a specialist in anesthesiology for general anesthesia. The professional license to practice dentistry on a freelance basis includes the right to run a dental laboratory. The dentist may only call himself a specialist dentist in orthodontics or periodontics if he has completed a specialist training course in accordance with Art. 75 or 76.
