Name change

The legal basis for the implementation of name changes is found in Art. 46 to 49 PGR. In principle, a change of name can be made if there are important reasons for it in personal or business or professional circumstances. When carrying out name changes in accordance with Art. 46 ff. PGR, however, the special provisions of the general civil code must be observed. In the ABGB, in particular § 139 (name of the legitimate child), § 154 (consent of both parents in the case of name changes of children) and § 165 to § 165 c (name management of the illegitimate child) are authoritative.

The detailed substantiated application for a name change must be submitted in writing to the Liechtenstein Civil Registry Office. The cost of a name change is CHF 300.00.
