Electronic documents

Authority documents in electronic form

Authoritative documents can be provided by the Liechtenstein National Administration in electronic form. The formats used are PDF (Portable Document Format) and XML. These standardized formats allow the documents to be easily displayed on a computer, stored in electronic form, and archived.

For correct display of PDF documents, it is recommended to use the free program Adobe Acrobat Reader. Get Adobe Acrobat Reader

Documents which are signed by an authority (official body) contain an electronic signature. In PDF documents, the electronic signature is also visibly displayed with a logo and information about the creator of the signature, the time of signature, and verification information.

The electronic signature can be verified for authenticity at any time. In the case of an electronically signed document, it is also possible to determine whether the document content has been subsequently changed.

The Liechtenstein National Administration provides suitable services for signature verification. More information is available at Signature verification.

In dealings with third parties, it is recommended to clarify the acceptance of electronically signed documents in advance.

Electronically certified copy

As a client of the Liechtenstein National Administration, you can have an electronically certified copy made of an original document available in paper form or a certified copy available in paper form at the Government Chancellery office.

Electronically certified copies can be used as follows:

  • If an original document or a certified copy is to be presented to an authority in Liechtenstein, the electronically certified copy of the document in question may be presented instead.
  • In other business transactions, it is recommended to clarify in advance the acceptance of electronically certified copies.
