Learner's permit

General

To obtain a learner's permit category, the form Learner's Driving Permit, Application for Issuance must be submitted to the Road Traffic Office by mail, no earlier than 1 month before reaching the minimum age for the corresponding category.

Before submitting the application, you must have your eyesight tested by an optician or doctor. The result will be entered directly on the application form. A photo sample chart can be found at the following link: Photo Sample Chart.pdf.

The learner's permit is issued after passing the basic theory. The validity of the learner's permit is limited in time.

The validity of the learner's permit expires if the holder has failed the practical driver's test three times and the licensing authority denies the applicant's fitness to drive on the basis of a test.

Use of the learner's permit abroad

If you want to drive abroad with the learner's permit, then please inquire at the competent authority or when crossing the border about the national regulations that apply there. We generally advise against undertaking learner's journeys abroad.

Who wants to acquire the driver's license of the categories A, A1, AM, B or B1, has to prove at the registration for the practical driver's test that the traffic knowledge was attended at a driving school. The course attendance must not be more than 2 years ago. Participation in the course requires a learner's permit (theory card for category AM). Exempt from attending the course are persons who already have a driver's license of one of these categories.

To take part in a course, please contact your driving instructor directly.
