Night work

In the case of night work, the daily working time for an individual employee may not exceed eight hours; it must, including breaks, be within a period of nine hours. If the employee is employed on no more than three out of seven consecutive nights, the daily working time may be ten hours, subject to the conditions to be laid down by decree; it must, however, be within a period of twelve hours, including breaks.

A) Entitlement

Employees with 25 or more night shifts per year are entitled to a medical examination and consultation. This entitlement may be claimed every two years, and annually for those 45 years of age and older.

B) Compulsory

Adults who are to perform night work involving special stresses and hazards may only perform night work if it is established on the basis of a medical examination and consultation that they are suitable for the planned assignment.
