Amateur Radio

Radio amateurs are in contact with each other all over the world. They transmit technical information about transmission and reception attempts as well as personal messages. In emergency situations, you try to maintain communication.

The possession of amateur radio equipment and the reception of amateur radio transmissions is permitted in Liechtenstein to anyone and without prior registration with the Office of Communications . However, for sending messages, special knowledge and a permit to participate in the amateur radio service with personal call sign assignment are required. For this reason, persons wishing to participate in the amateur radio service must provide proof of the required knowledge in the form of a corresponding certificate of proficiency. Only then can the corresponding assignment of a call sign and authorization to participate in the amateur radio service be applied for.

The legal basis and regulations for amateur radio can be found in the Act on Electronic Communications, the Ordinance on Identification Means and Frequencies in the Field of Electronic Communications, as well as the Ordinance on the Levying of Administrative and User Fees under the Communications Act (KomG-GebV)

The Liechtenstein prefix for callsigns is HB0** or HB0*** or HB0Y** for beginners.

Note: The prefix HB0 is assigned to Switzerland according to Annex 42 of the so-called ITU - Radio Regulations.

The assignment of a call sign and authorization to participate in the amateur radio service must be applied for in advance at the Office of Communications by means of application form
