Digital tachograph

As is well known, the digital tachograph (DFS) was already introduced in the EU on May 01, 2006. In Liechtenstein, this was introduced on August 1, 2006, on an optional basis, and from October 28, 2006, on a definitive basis.

The temporal difference of the introduction in Liechtenstein resulted from the fact that for EEA states, thus also for Liechtenstein, the authoritative regulation became binding only after the adoption into the EEA agreement.

The following dates are binding for Liechtenstein:

  • From August 1, 2006, vehicles could be registered with DFS. However, this date was not mandatory, but voluntary, i.e. from August 1, 2006 until the definitive introduction date (October 28, 2006) could be registered in Liechtenstein both vehicles with digital and still with analog tachograph.
  • From 28 October 2006, with the entry into force of the relevant national amendment ordinances in Liechtenstein, all vehicles had to be equipped with DFS,

a) which are put into circulation for the first time;

b) that are newly required to be equipped with a tachograph; or

c) that were first placed on the market before January 1, 1996, and for which the entire tachograph system has been replaced.

For vehicles that were registered in Liechtenstein with an analog tachograph in the period from May 01, 2006 (obligation date in the EU) to October 28, 2006, problems could arise during inspections in the EU states. For this reason, the Office of Road Traffic has issued a confirmation in five different European languages on the legal situation and the associated subsequent introduction of the digital tachograph in Liechtenstein. This confirmation is handed in at the Road Traffic Office and should always be carried in the motor vehicle in the event of a check by the foreign authorities.

The Road Traffic Office serves as a coordination point in case of any problems with the foreign authorities. The following specially set up Internet access points, the Website FL and the ASTRA website provide information on the digital tachograph and the obligations for entrepreneurs and drivers.

Change in the payment method for the driver and company card. In order to continue to offer these two types of cards at a low price and to keep the collection effort low, prepayment will be introduced as the only payment method for the driver and company cards. So that the processing process is only slightly longer, the variant "prepayment via e-banking" is offered. There, you will receive all the necessary details for the payment as well as the invoice as a PDF by e-mail and can execute the transfer immediately via e-banking. Alternatively, you will receive a paper invoice by mail. With both variants, production of the driver and company card will not take place until receipt of payment has been registered with FEDRO.
