Monitoring of draft EU legal acts

In accordance with Art. 99 of the EEA Agreement, the EU Commission informally seeks the advice of experts from the EEA/EFTA States when drafting new EEA relevant EU legislation.

Although the EEA/EFTA States involved have no right of co-decision in the drafting of new EU legislation, they do at least have observer status and therefore a right to information and consultation.

From Liechtenstein's perspective, this right of consultation is an effective instrument for representing its own interests. In addition to state authorities, interest groups and individuals can also comment on draft legislation as part of public consultations.
