Field of activity

The land register is a public register, endowed with public faith, in which real property and the rights in rem existing in it are entered in order to ensure the greatest possible legal security in real property transactions.

The Land Registry Department is located at the Office of Justice and is located in Vaduz. The Principality of Liechtenstein consists of a single land register district. The country's area of 160 square kilometers is divided into approximately 40,000 parcels. For better clarity, a special ledger with independent numbering has been created for each municipality.

The land register consists of:

  • the ledger
  • the diary
  • the plans supplementing the general ledger
  • the vouchers and
  • the land descriptions

The tasks of the Land Registry Department are the creation and maintenance of the land registry for the whole country in accordance with the provisions of the Property Law and the Land Registry Ordinance. The main tasks are:

  • Recording entries in the land register
  • Cleanings of the land register
  • Preparation of land register extracts and official confirmations
  • Preparation of mortgage titles
  • Notarizations and public certifications

The supervisory authority is the Government of the Principality of Liechtenstein. Appeals against decisions of the Office may be lodged with the Office of Justice or with the Appeals Commission for Administrative Matters.
