Waste Management Ordinance (ABWV)

According to the Waste Management Ordinance (ABWV), facilities for the commercial collection or transport of waste, as well as dealers or brokers of waste, must register with the Office for the Environment before commencing operations.

Exempt from the registration requirement are all establishments that require an operating license under the Environmental Protection Act for a waste disposal facility, as well as establishments that exclusively transport unpolluted excavated material. Therefore, only traders, brokers, collectors and transporters of waste who are not subject to a permit requirement are subject to registration.

By issuing this regulation, the government is complying with the implementation of Directive 2008/98/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 19 November 2008 on waste and repealing certain directives. One of the objectives of the regulation is to obtain an overview of the players and their activities in the national waste market
