Elementary School

Elementary school consists of five grades and marks the beginning of compulsory education. It is the standard educational institution for all children and is free of charge. Children who have turned six by the end of June of the current year are admitted to elementary school.
Detailed information on the transition from kindergarten to elementary school can be found in the brochure rel="noopener"> “Transition from Kindergarten to School: Information for Parents.”

The mission of elementary school is to familiarize students with basic knowledge and skills. It supports their social, emotional, and physical development. Elementary school teachers provide students with the foundation they need for secondary school.

The following subjects are taught in elementary school: mathematics, German, English, NMG (Nature, People, Society), visual arts, music, physical education, textile and technical arts, and religion.
Further information is available in the curriculum for the Principality of Liechtenstein.

All children advance to the next grade level at the end of the school year. The exception to this rule is students who voluntarily wish to repeat a grade. Repeating the 5th grade requires approval from the school administration, which is granted only in exceptional cases.
Additional information on school transitions can be found in the brochures “The Transition Process” and “Secondary Schools.”

Students with learning difficulties receive support through special educational measures or enhanced special education services (special education).

In addition to public elementary schools, Liechtenstein also has a private school operated by the Liechtenstein Waldorf School Association and a bilingual elementary school (formatio Bilinguale Privatschule), for which parents must pay tuition.
