After the first provisional figures were published in the first quarter of the year, Liechtenstein's telecommunications market statistics are now available with complete data as of the end of 2024.
The statistics show the continuing shift toward high-performance internet connections and the end of national copper networks as significant market developments. By the end of 2024, all services in the fixed network were provided via fiber optics, with the exception of one regional coaxial network. The take rate in the fiber optic access network rose by 4 percentage points to 79% in 2024. Already 27% of internet connections had a download speed of at least 1 Gbit/s. In 2024, increases were mainly recorded for internet connections with a download speed of at least 500 Mbit/s.
Due to the long-term decline in fixed-line telephone connections, coverage of households and workplaces had halved from 80% to 40% over the past 10 years.
In the mobile communications sector, 4G/LTE coverage stood at 97% of the population at the end of 2024, which was still higher than for the new 5G standard. Mobile phone connections with Liechtenstein +423 numbers showed an increase of 5% compared to the previous year, while those with +41 numbers increased by 1%.
In addition to information on call and data volumes for landline telephone and internet connections as well as mobile phone connections with +423 numbers, the market statistics contain a wealth of other data on market developments, e.g. on infrastructure, number of providers, jobs, turnover, and investments, and relate this to national figures such as population, households, and buildings.
