Humanitarian assistance for the Caribbean after Hurricane Melissa

Liechtenstein is supporting the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in the Caribbean with CHF 100’00. The contribution funds life-saving assistance and the stabilization of key supply routes in Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti and the Dominican Republic aiming to reach up to 1.1 million people.

Hurricane Melissa ranks among the strongest Atlantic storms ever recorded (Category 5), causing widespread flooding, landslides and severe damage to energy, communications and transport infrastructure. Even before the storm, more than 10 million people in the region were affected by food insecurity.

WFP is activating its regional network to deliver food and cash assistance, coordinate logistics and maintain emergency communications.

In a spirit of global solidarity, Liechtenstein supports WFP as part of the international response to an underfunded crisis and to deliver effective assistance.
