Germany is a particularly close partner for the Principality of Liechtenstein in many respects. Head of Government Brigitte Haas and Deputy Head of Government Sabine Monauni visited Berlin on Thursday, June 5 and Friday, June 6, 2025, to discuss joint challenges for the coming years at various ministerial meetings and working meetings with high-ranking representatives.
The Head of Government Brigitte Haas met with the Minister of the Chancellery Thorsten Frei (CDU), Federal Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius (SPD), as well as chairpersons and members of various committees of the German Bundestag. The head of government discussed Germany's current domestic and economic policy situation with Chancellery Minister Frei and was informed about the prospects resulting from the change of government. Specific topics such as the war in Ukraine, the overall economic recovery after years of recession, the reintroduction of border controls and their duration as well as Germany's current domestic political situation were also part of the head of government's agenda.
In her role as Deputy Head of Government, the Foreign and Environment Minister met with Federal Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul (CDU), German Environment Minister Carsten Schneider (SPD) and Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD), as well as chairmen and members of the German Bundestag. The talks focused on current issues relating to European policy, German environmental policy and security policy. Relations with the USA, the war in Ukraine, the war in Gaza and the upcoming chancellorship and its challenges were also discussed. Deputy Prime Minister Monauni also opened a conference on "Strengthening the Crime of Aggression in the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court" at the Federal Foreign Office together with the German Foreign Minister with a keynote speech.
As part of the working talks, Head of Government Brigitte Haas and Deputy Head of Government Sabine Monauni attended the Liechtenstein Embassy's summer reception on Thursday, June 6, 2025 as guests of honor in the presence of many high-ranking guests, including the new Minister of State for Culture Wolfram Weimer. The summer reception is the traditional networking meeting between the Liechtenstein government and political and social Berlin and takes place at the Liechtenstein residence. The Liechtenstein delegation took the opportunity to network more closely between the various levels of the German capital and their Liechtenstein counterparts and to expand contacts with politicians, associations, think tanks and the media.
